NEWS Photography Contest Winners Announced Napa Valley, CA ~ The winners of the eleventh annual Napa Valley Mustard Festival Photography Contest were announced, and awards presented at The Mumm Napa Photo Finish on March 27 at Mumm Napa in Rutherford. The Photography Contest Exhibit was the best ever, with a total of 367 entries in the show. A record number of pieces were purchased by event patrons. The Napa Valley Mustard Festival Photography Contest, now in its eleventh year, has been one of the most successful elements of the Napa Valley Mustard Festival since its inception. Professional and amateur photographers enter more than 300 photographs of Napa Valley's glorious scenes of mustard in bloom each year. Prize money totaling $5,250 is awarded annually. The contest was judged by Mary Street Alinder, author and chief assistant to Ansel Adams in his late years, and James G. Alinder, art professor, author, and executive director of The Friends of Photography in the 1980s, proprietors of the Alinder Gallery in Gualala; Charles O’Rear, award-winning photographer known for his National Geographic features and his books: Napa Valley, Wine Country, Cabernet, and Chardonnay; Jim O’Shea, founder of the Photography Contest; and Ira Wolk, owner/director of I. Wolk Gallery in St. Helena and Olive Grove Sculpture Garden at Auberge du Soleil.
The People’s Choice Award went to P Darnell, as her entry was voted the favorite by "Photo Finish Patrons." Prizes First Place, Second Place, and Third Place ribbons and prize money were awarded in each of the three main categories of the contest - Professional, Amateur, and Innovative. Prize money for First Place awards was $1,000 each, with Second Place winners receiving $500 each, and Third Place winners receiving $250 each. The winner of the Carneros Category won a personalized tour and tasting at Domaine Carneros for up to four guests; and a magnum of Domaine Carneros Brut Cuvée signed by the winemaker. Ribbons and prizes were also awarded to the winners of the following sub-categories. The winner of the Silverado Trail Category won a A bottle of wine from each Silverado Trail Wineries Association member participating in The Mumm Napa Photo Finish. The winner of the Aerial Balloon Category won a Champagne balloon flight and overnight stay for two provided by the Professional Balloon Pilots Association and Napa Valley Mustard Festival. The winner of the People’s Choice Award received a bottle of wine from each Silverado Trail Wineries Association member participating in The Mumm Napa Photo Finish.
